Early Life & Education

Douglas Henry Price, known affectionately to family and friends as Doug and Dudly, the son of Jimmie Price and Alice Stancil Price, was born Sept. 3, 1948. He grew up with older brother Sammy.

He spent his formative years immersed in the local heritage, growing up in the historic Stancil's Chapel community of Johnston County.

Following his high school graduation, he pursued higher education in the mountains of western North Carolina, graduating from Appalachian State.

Decorated Military Service in Vietnam

Following his university studies, Douglas answered the call to arms during the height of the Vietnam War, serving with distinction in the United States Army. For his exceptional valor, meritorious service, and dedication to duty while deployed in the combat theater, he was awarded two Bronze Stars. His service stood as a permanent testament to his courage and patriotism.

Professional Career

Upon returning to civilian life, Douglas dedicated his professional skills to public service and agriculture. He built a long, successful career with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), serving the farming communities of eastern North Carolina until his well-earned retirement.

Marriage & Blended Family Life

Douglas married Elizabeth Ann Ballenger in 1971. Elizabeth, born in 1954, is the daughter of Donald and Ida Moore Ballenger.

Douglas and Elizabeth were parents to Doug Jr., and Staci Ann.

In 1994, Dudly married Pat Smith and the household embraced his stepsons, Craig and Bob Harrell. He also took immense joy in his role as a grandfather in 2006.

Passing & Memorial Honors

Douglas Henry Price Sr. passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at the age of 55 in Greenville, North Carolina. A graveside service celebrating his life and legacy was held with full military honors on Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Pinewood Memorial Park.
