Vessie Irene Stancil, daughter of Harvey Stancil, was born Aug. 27, 1911.

She graduated from Glendale High School in Kenly in 1930. She was employed by Belk Department Store.

Vessie met William Herman Joyner. They were married on August 24, 1948. Herman had a successful transfer business in Farmville, North Carolina. Happiness faded quickly when he died on February 2, 1949.

Vessie later met Cephus Hedrick Joyner. They married on June 4, 1957. Cephus had wore many hats. He was a retired auto dealer and also had retired from a management position at the Peoples Bank and Trust Company. Cephus grew up on a farm and still found pleasure in farming. He had served in WWI and served on the local Draft Board for many years.

Vessie and Cephus had many happy years together. Cephus passed away Oct. 21, 1981, in Nashville, North Carolina. He was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery in Nashville.

Vessie died Feb. 4, 1991, and was also buried in Forest Hill Cemetery.
