Early Life and Education
Timothy “Tim” Neal Murphy was born on August 17, 1958, in Burlington, North Carolina. Growing up in the close-knit communities of Alamance County, Tim developed a strong work ethic and deep roots in the region. He attended local schools and graduated from Eastern Alamance High School with the Class of 1976.
A Fifty-Year Love Story
The year of his graduation marked the beginning of Tim's greatest lifelong adventure. On March 28, 1976, Tim was united in marriage to Robin Garner in Burlington. Together, they built a life defined by mutual devotion, partnership, and unconditional love. Tim and Robin were blessed to celebrate their milestone 50th wedding anniversary together in March of 2026, surrounded by the beautiful family they had spent half a century cultivating.
Career in Construction
Professionally, Tim was a well-known and highly respected figure in the local industry. For over 45 years, he was the owner and operator of Garner Murphy Construction. Tim was a remarkably talented heavy equipment operator who took pride in a job well done. To those who worked alongside him, he was far more than a business owner—he was a fair, kind, and beloved boss who mentored many in the trade and built lasting structures across North Carolina.
Family and Legacy
Tim's greatest pride was his family. Together with Robin, he raised three children: Christy (married to Clay Lutterloh), Alan (married to Kristy), and Matthew (married to Ashley).
As the family grew, Tim embraced his favorite role as grandfather to ten cherished grandchildren: Carson Lutterloh, Payton Lutterloh, Oaklyn Lutterloh, Weston Murphy, Tatum Murphy, Gunner Murphy, Tucker Murphy, Austin Reed Murphy, Tripp Murphy, and Ty Murphy. He was also a devoted brother to Benny “Snook” Murphy and Pam Foster (and her husband Doug).
Passing
Tim passed away peacefully at his home in Graham, North Carolina, on April 26, 2026, at the age of 67. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, a legendary 50-year marriage, and a family that will forever carry forward his strength, warmth, and generous spirit.
